By Fernando Donate Ochoa / redaccion@ahora.cu / Monday, 08 February 2010 15:32

The Italian rock band Genrosso will perform this Wednesday at the "Ismaelillo” movie theatre in the eastern province of Holguin, as part of a world tour of this group.

"Zenit" is the concert that will offer the band, which will combine rock, funk, rap, pop and Latin music. The presentation will also include the performances of 19 artists from nine countries under the direction of Sara Finsh, Swiss art director Benedikt Enderle, and Italian coordinator Valerio Gentile.

Since its foundation in 1966, in the Florentine town Loppiano, the group has recorded 54 albums; they have toured 48 nations from five continents offering 2,000 concerts for 6 million people, singing their themes in 24 languages.

GENROSSO is a name that comes from the so-called New Generation of the ´60s, and the red paint of a battery donated to a group of youth for the UNESCO Prize for Peace Education, Chiara Lubich.

Genrosso was at first a folk music band, they spent some years mostly giving concerts and since 1986 they successfully entered the musical genre, after their An Ongoing Story.

Bayamo, Manzanillo, Santiago de Cuba and Holguin are part of the tour through eastern Cuba inspired by actress Corina Mestre and sponsored by the National Centre for the
Performing Arts. In 2008 they performed in Havana, Pinar del Rio and Cienfuegos.

Besides Zenit, they have included the musical “Streetlight” in its repertoire. Along with their presentation they offer workshops with actors, musicians and professional dancers; this way, the project gives the possibility to sing together, share ideas, learn about the richness of other cultures and enrich the talent of others in an environment of culture, peace, and brotherhood.

In 43 years they have had 200 artists, including founders who still remain in the band as musician and composer Valerio Cipri, and current manager, Santino Zacchetti. Band members find unity in diversity through the universal language of music. Their ages average 35 years and they come from several countries like Kenya, Poland, Italy, Philippines, Spain, Brazil, Tanzania, Argentina, and Switzerland.

They have a premise "contributing to build a united and peaceful world, without barriers of race, nationalism, ideologies, cultures or religious beliefs, and promote unity among all men." As music performers without labels or barriers, they have offered many shows that emerged in the cultural elite.

After their performance in Cuba, they will travel to Mexico, Germany, China, and other countries.
