Holguín nominees for best in sports

The provincial sports management released the list of athletes, teams and disciplines for the selection of the best of the year in this sector.
The nominees for best female athlete of the year in individual sport are Danay Utria, rhythmic gymnastics and Dailyn Cristina Moreno, fencing, both with extensive competitive career in the year and meritorious results.
In the men's section, shooter Leuris Pupo and fencer Luis Enrique Patterson and Humberto Aguilera are included in the list of nominees.
Leuris won gold in a rapid-fire pistol at the Ibero-American Tournament and secured the ticket for the Tokyo-2020 Olympic Games. He won silver at the Pan American Games in Lima and ranked fourth in the World Cup in Brazil.
Holguín's only gold medalists in Lima were, in fencing team, Patterson and Aguilera, the latter as a substitute. Luis Enrique also achieved gold in Fence in the continental tournament. Humberto was fifth in foil in Lima and national champion of that modality.
The baseball player Eleyennis Estupiñán, who participated in Pan American Tournament, is the only nominee for the best in collective sport. Luis Raúl Domínguez (softball), Sergio Reynaldo González (beach volleyball) and Yordan Manduley (baseball) are nominated in the men's. The softball player Domínguez was fourth in Lima, tenth in world tournament and national bronze.
Sergio, fifth in the Pan American Games in Lima, won three bronze medals at the Norceca tournaments and 33rd place in the Hamburg World Cup.
Shortstop Manduley was sixth in Lima, runner-up with his team in the Canam League (341 average offensive). He was also selected as reinforcement in Las Tunas baseball team, for the second phase of the 59 National Baseball Series.
The list of nominees for the best athletes of the year also inlcudes the Iternational Chess Master, Lizandra Llaudy, Juan Columbié (weightlifting), Ángel Jesús Rivero Noris (handball), Roberto Almanares (judo), Leonel Suárez (decathlon, athletics), Wilson Paredes (baseball) and Isan Ortiz (chess).
Cycling, sails and mtocycling, with second places in the country, dispute the distinction of best individual discipline, while in collective sport, handball and softball dispute the distinction. The men's softball team (national bronze) is suggested as the most outstanding team.
Rower Alexei Carballosa (bronze and fourth place in Lima) has been nominee as best rookie of the year. The new sections for outstanding athletes in a non-individual event has included Sergio González, while athletes hired abroad are shortstop Manduley, baseball player Máikel Cáceres and handball player Ángel Jesús Rivero.
Among other nominations, Ulicer Aguilera (athletics-javelin, of the Anci), Yanelis Marcelina Silva and Henry Cuenca (both of table tennis, Aclifim) are mentioned in sports for the disabled.
