The Cuban Ministry of Culture, the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC), and the governments of Holguín and Gibara have announced the 21st edition of the International Low-Budget Film Festival, to be held from April 13 to 17, 2027, in this coastal town.
According to the announcement published on the FIG Gibara official website, the event will revive the Low-Budget Film Factory for its third edition, a space dedicated to supporting audiovisual production in the eastern provinces and Camagüey. The guidelines for this initiative and the Humberto Solás Award for Films in Progress will be announced soon.
Works of any nationality are eligible, submitted in their original language with Spanish subtitles, and completed between 2025 and the closing date of the call for entries.
The competition categories are: feature film, short film, feature-length documentary, short documentary, and experimental animation and audiovisual work. Participants will compete for the Lucía Awards and other related distinctions, awarded by a jury of national and international figures whose decision will be final.
The submission period will be open from November 6, 2026, to January 5, 2027. Those interested should complete the online form. The entry fees are 900 CUP for Cuban short and medium-length films, 1,500 CUP for Cuban feature films, 16 USD for foreign works under 60 minutes, and 30 USD for international feature films.
The event is being held with the aim of keeping alive the Manifesto of Poor Cinema, created by Humberto Solás in 2001, through the screening of audiovisual works in multicultural and open-air spaces.
