There he was received by Gertrudis Bejerano, vice-president of the Provincial Assembly of People's Power, who explained to the Vietnamese ambassador the characteristics and potentialities of this territory, with a view to expanding the economic and social links of the Asian country with Holguín.
The Vietnamese ambassador in Cuba was particularly interested in the development projects that could be established between his nation and this eastern province of Cuba, especially in the areas of agriculture, tourism, industry, science, among others.
At the meeting, the Vietnamese ambassador inquired about the main obstacles Holguín faces to its full development, most of which are a consequence of the blockade of the United States towards the island.
Gertrudis Bejerano, vice-president of the Provincial Assembly of People's Power, explained to the highest Vietnamese representative in Cuba that today the effects are mainly concentrated on the availability of fuel, medicines and various medical instruments and on the scarcity of raw materials for industries.
His Excellency Mr. Nguyen Trung Thanh, Vietnam's ambassador in Cuba, stated that his visit to Holguín "is an honor, because I am moved by its history, its streets, I like what I see in people's eyes".
"I feel a lot of motivation, interest and confidence in the development of Holguín. You have, not only the history of glory, you also have many potentialities and, above all, you have excellent human capital which is the most important thing," he stressed.
He also stressed the Vietnamese government's commitment to cooperation for Cuba's development without conditions or secret agendas, as other countries do.
"The relations between Cuba and Vietnam are very close, their development is our development. Vietnam has every intention that there will be a better life in Cuba and that this improvement will be seen in the countryside, in the shops and at the Cuban table," he said.
The Vietnamese ambassador, during his visit to Holguín, recalled how Cuba was the only country that supported Vietnam when the majority turned its back on it and referred to the activities planned for 2020, the year in which both countries will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. /Radio Angulo
