2019-2020 sugar harvest underway in Holguín

Photo: Luis Enrique DíazThe Cristino Naranjo sugar mill, one of the five existing in the province of Holguín, started the 2019-2020 sugar harvest in the eastern territory after concluding the maintenance works of its manufacturing facilities.
The start-up of this industry is included in the program of the so-called small harvest, which will run until the end of December and to which other industries will progressively join to the harvest in the territory, one of the largest producers of sugar in the country.
José Antonio González, an analyst at the sugar company, confirmed to ACN that the industrial operations of Cristino Naranjo began around one o'clock in the afternoon, after the adjustments required in the different milling areas.
Holguín also has the sugar mills Urbano Noris, which will be the next to join the harvest, the Loynaz Hechavarría, López-Peña and Fernando de Dios.
For this campaign, the province has 132 sugar harvester machines, most of which of the KTP-2 M model, said Orlando Teruel Álvarez, head of the mechanization and transport department at the sugar company in Holguín.
