Debates around the thinking and actions of Fidel Castro throughout history were carried out in the colloquium organized by the Cuban Workers Federation in Holguín, on the occasion of the third anniversary of the death of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, on November 25, 2016.
Jorge Guach and Alexander Abreu, professors of the University of Holguín, offered a conference on the different historical moments led by Fidel and the values that distinguish him in the world socialist movement.
The unity of principles defended by Fidel as an essential factor to achieve any viable social project within a creative diversity, as well as the security he professed towards the various mass organizations that gathered the Cuban people were among the main topics discussed by participants.
They also addressed moments of the revolutionary process in which his ethical thinking and trust in the people were highlighted, such as the victory against the mercenaries in Playa Girón in 1961, the October crisis and the measures taken before the economic situation faced by the country during the so-called Special Period in the 90s, among others.
It was also highlighted the influence of the Commander in Chief as a source of inspiration for the new generations projected towards the construction of a better world faced with a Latin America that lives key moments in its history, and where youth play an important role .
Fidel's Latin American, internationalist and anti-imperialist thinking was remembered when reviewing the different events experienced by the left in Latin America, including the coup d'etat against the president of Bolivia Evo Morales, which has caused acts of persecution of the followers of his social programs, which included the rupture of the Cuban medical mission in that country.
The colloquium became a meeting to rethink the challenges that Latin America must assume, including the unity of thought historically defended by Fidel Castro, because it is clear, they stressed, that the attacks of the right against the projects of the peoples of the region will not cease, especially with the hostilities of the current administration of the United States Government.
