4G Coverage Reaches the Entire Urban Area of Holguín Municipality

Holguín is among the Cuban provinces where the largest number of fourth generation or 4G stations will be installed this year. Since it was tested last September, there are already 29 stations in service in the territory and it is expected to increase to 43 this year, explained Yovagnis Pérez Carmenate, head of the department of Mobile Telephony in the Territorial Division of the Telecommunications Company of Cuba (Etecsa).
“We have installed five stations in the tourist pole and there are 38 planned for this year in the provincial capital, of which 24 are already in service, another three must be installed in the coming days in the University of Medical Sciences, the Sandino Secondary High School, located in the Salida de San Andrés district and the Industrial Zone”.
To improve the areas where there are difficulties with coverage or congestion in the network, the installation of more than 20 stations in the city have been included in this year’s investment plan, eleven of them will also have 4G, which allows customers to achieve greater speed in the data connection.
The company has prioritized the main municipality because the areas with the highest traffic are located in the city and added that the entire urban area has 4G coverage.
“The installation of these eleven stations will take longer as these new investments require a lot of work to be done. The civil works are already done, we are watching the ground systems, receiving the masts, as soon as everything is ready the equipment will be installed, which will be by the end of the year. ”
Etecsa intends to extend the service to other municipalities as far as the possibilities permit, Pérez Carmenate explained.
“We started with the area where there is the largest number of mobiles in the province, but in the coming years the company will continue extending this service to the municipalities.”
According to the head of the department of Mobile Telephony, the growth in fourth generation or 4G stations in Holguín has to do with indicators, which make the province a singular one in the country, such as being the second with the largest number of mobile telephone stations after Matanzas, and the third with the highest figure of customers in the country.
