Beekeepers in Holguin to Increase Honey Production

Photo: Arnaldo VargasThe production of honey in the province of Holguin has potential to be exploited, thus contributing to the increase in the export of a product highly quoted in the international market for its nutritional and medicinal values.
Currently, the cooperative and peasant sector in the province has 185 beekeepers and 366 apiaries whose integral management made it possible to contract 183 tons of honey bees.
An analysis of the productive indicators within the cooperative and peasant sector carried out by the provincial Bureau of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP), showed that honey collected to date amounts to 238 tons.
For beekeepers of the territory, proper management and attention to bees has to become a commitment, in order to increase the production of honey.
Honey is one of the exportable items in the province of Holguin, hence the need to focus efforts in the attention to its production to its nutritional, medicinal and economic importance values.
