The energy saving measures taken in Cuba in the face of the escalation of the aggressive policy of the United States government, impose major challenges for the workers of the tourism sector, who, despite these difficult conditions, do not cease to provide a service of excellence.
In the Brisas Guardalavaca hotel, in the municipality of Banes, strategies are adopted to reduce the consumption of fuel allocated for the transportation of its workers.
The measures include the reorganization of the work force on extended shifts, since of 58 daily trips offered by the Workers Transportation Company (Transmetro) on its three main routes (Holguín, Rafael Freyre and Banes), they can only offer 22 in these moments (38 percent of the total), at a time when this installation, with a four-star category and 437 rooms, is 85 percent occupied, which increases the efforts of its workforce, said Rafael Ernesto Cruz Zaldivar, deputy director of Human Resources of the hotel.
“In the case of Brisas, due to the compaction of hotels in other destinations, such as Cobarrubias (Las Tunas) and Marea del Portillo (Granma), we are receiving customers from these facilities, so, in September, it is expected to fulfill revenues and day-tourists, while the predictions for the months of October and November are promising.
This requires a motivated workforce, therefore, we are making emphasis in the quality of services,” said the director, in line with what was expressed by the Cuban president, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, that, despite this difficult situation, the national economy will continue to increase in 2019, purpose in which the so-called leisure industry plays a very important role.
