The measures taken by the Cuban Government to face the current energy crisis were analyzed in a meeting via video- conference that took place this Wednesday at the headquarters of the Provincial Directorate of the Electric Company in the city of Holguin.

The meeting was addressed by the vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers, Commander of the Revolution, Ramiro Valdes Menendez, the Ministers of Industry Alfredo Lopez and Energy and Mines, Raul Garcia Barreiro, who evaluated the strategies being implemented by the state sector to overcome this short-term situation and mitigate the impact on the residential sector.

Hector Lugo Graña, director of the Electricity Company in Holguin, announced among the measures to be implemented in the province the readjustment of consumption plans and the rational use of climate equipment, except for those essential in productive or services processes. Electricity must also be completely turned off from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 06:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Key areas for social development will be protected, such as aqueducts, hospitals and those industries, such as food, that cannot stop production.

Although these measures initially impact the state sector in Holguin, which has about 12,241 clients, it is essential for the residential sector to redouble saving, as there are 357,082 private clients who consume 55 percent of the province's energy demand.

He also called the people of Holguin to shift energy consumption from the peak hours in order to contribute to the saving of fuel and energy.

Government representatives of all Cuban provinces, directors of the Electricity Company and members of the National Office for the Control of Rational Energy Use (Onure) participated in the meeting.
