Holguin Paid Tribute to Juan Almeida Bosque

This September 11, the people of Holguin commemorated the tenth anniversary of the death of the Commander of the Revolution Juan Almeida Bosque, with a cultural and political gala held at La Periquera Museum, National Monument.

The gala was chaired by Ernesto Santiesteban Velazquez, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in Holguin; Julio Cesar Estupiñan, President of the Provincial Assembly of Popular Power and other officials.
“Almeida belonged to the platoon of the essentials, of very humble origin, he always accompanied Fidel, from the attack to the Moncada, the prision fecunda, in Mexico, in the Granma expedition, in the Sierra Maestra, in the Alegria of Pio battle, where he raised the morale of the decimated Cuban troop with a phrase that symbolizes the unequivocal decision of Cubans to exercise freedom and self-determination, ” said Jose Leandro Perez Guerrero, president of the University Student Federation, of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Holguin.
Almeida was also a man of deep artistic sensibility. He composed more than 300 songs and wrote a dozen books, including "Against the Wind and Water", Casa de las Americas Award in the testimony category, in 1985.
