The recovery of the Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture is currently a priority for the highest political and governmental authorities in the province of Holguin.
Ernesto Santisteban Velazquez, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the territory, toured some of the urban farms located in the city of Holguin, to assess aspects related to the last visit to those production areas and the municipal self-supply program.

In the particular case of the municipality of Holguin, the production of fresh vegetables and condiments was not fulfilled at the end of August, as only 8, 311 tons were produced of the 10,163planned.
The water situation, the weather harshness, high temperatures and lack of workforce, due to low wages, were some of the causes that interfered with this result.
Manuel Hernandez, vice president for the Administration Body in the province of Holguin, pointed out that, apart from these objective factors, the sloppiness and accommodation must be left aside, so it is necessary to seek alternatives.
He also insisted on the need to request the support of other entities, as well as to involve schools and political and mass organizations.
Regarding the urban farms worked by usufructuaries, Ernesto Santisteban insisted on the completion of the workforce.
"It is not only to earn money, but to meet the needs of vegetables that the population demands," he noted.
In this regard, they referred to the Lidia Doce urban garden, in charge of usufructuaries, which produces a large volume of vegetables and medicinal plants.
Despite these difficulties, the provincial capital is preparing for the production of 540 tons of fresh vegetables in the cold campaign for social consumption and direct sales in points and state markets, said Yusmila Rodriguez, head of the Provincial Department of Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture in Holguin.
