The current agricultural planting campaign which will run until February in the province of Holguin will give priority to the production of viands and beans, as part of the actions undertaken by the Ministry of Agriculture aimed at increasing the production of food.

Farmers from the region will undertake the bulk of this program, while state entities will be in charge of the rest of the areas to be planted, mainly Mayari-Cueto, Limoncito, La Yuraguana, Velasco and Beola, which stand out for their productive potentials.

Carlos Alberto Ricardo Ledea, specialist in the provincial delegation of agriculture said that the comprehensive planting plan in this period is estimated at 32,400 hectares, of which some 19,000 will be dedicated to viands and grains, whose production is expected to increase after the installation of irrigation systems.

In this sense, the province has extended investments in the main agricultural entities of the territory so far this year, especially in those areas linked to the East-West Water Transfer, including Mayari, Cueto, Velasco and Rafael Freyre.

Ricardo Ledea also highlighted the availability in the sector of the machinery park for the preparation of the land and other means that due to fuel limitations could be used as alternative means, specifically the animal traction force.

Planting plans have been extending in Holguin territories for about five years in almost two thousand hectares by stages. Today, it is estimated to reach the largest area in the last five years with the 32 thousand 400 hectares committed, he said.
