Holguín Highlights Achievements in Tribute to July 26

The completion of more than 1,700 works during the first semester this year in sectors such as public health, education and housing, is among the main achievements in the province of Holguín in tribute to the National Rebellion Day on July 26.
 
It also highlights the production of 158 thousand tons of sugar in the recently concluded harvest and the development of investment programs in key branches of the economy, such as irrigation systems in the agricultural sector of the main food production areas of the eastern territory.

Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Holguín, highlighted these results during the main celebration for the historic date held in the municipality of Cacocum.

Santiesteban stressed the results achieved in the mother and child care program in which the province ended the first semester with a rate of 3.48 deaths per thousand live births and referred to the contributions of the two thousand 584 workers of this branch in medical missions in different countries.

He also praised the results obtained the recently concluded school year, the varied program conceived for the summer season, the call and quality of international events such as the Romerías de Mayo and the Gibara Film Festival, which distinguish Holguín as a strong cultural square.

About the commitments and challenges of the territory for this year, the first secretary of the Party insisted on the need to increase food production from municipal self-supply strategies, the recovery of agricultural areas and the increase of productive chains.

The political leader also stressed as priorities the economic battle and the preparation for defense in line with the statements by the first secretary of the Central Party Committee, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz and the President of the Councils of State and Ministers Miguel Díaz- Canel Bermúdez referred to promoting the socialist state enterprise, promoting local development projects, the housing program and using scientific advances in order to solve social problems.

The National Rebellion Day is celebrated on July 26 each year in Cuba as a tribute to the revolutionary actions carried out in 1953 by the youth of the Centennial Generation, led by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz, against the Fulgencio dictatorship Batista through the attack on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, in Santiago de Cuba and Bayamo respectively.
