The rehabilitation process of the three water purification plants of the city of Holguín, with more than 300 thousand inhabitants, is one of the main actions carried out by the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources this year in the eastern province.
José Quevedo Segura, subdelegate of investments of this branch in the territory, told the local press that the works are mainly focused on achieving a higher quality of the precious liquid as a pending issue within the priorities of the program.
These actions began to develop from the previous year from the connection of new devices in the storage tanks and pipes in the urban environment to replace those sections more damaged by the long operating time in the water supply systems to the population.
The investments in this area also extend to the 10 pumping systems available to the city, the executive said when commenting that the total cost for these tasks exceeds nine million pesos in both currencies.
Quevedo stressed that the three supply tanks associated with these plants have already been installed, which together have a capacity of about 22 thousand cubic meters of water.
The actions also include the purchase of equipment and technologies in the foreign market for the replacement of those deteriorated due to the long years of exploitation, such as the case of the Holguín dos water- treatment plant.
This will enable, he assured, to renovate the process of extraction and distribution of water with a greater vitality to the network from the water treatment plants, according to the priorities conceived by the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources in the improvement of this vital service to the population.
