Cuba Bets on German Tourism

The words of Manuel Marrero Cruz, minister of Tourism in Cuba, were welcomed by more than 250 German travel agents participating in the Travel Games event organized by the tour operator Thomas Cook, which allowed delegates to visit several eastern and central provinces of Cuba, for a week.
In the closing ceremony held at the Iberostar Holguin hotel, the only five star Selection category of that Spanish group on the northeast coast, Marrero thanked the TT OO Thomas Cook for choosing this destination to develop this recognition and promotion event together with the Iberostar Hotels & Resorts and Melia chains.
Marrero said that more than 200 thousand Germans have visited Cuba this year. "We started with difficulties due to the lack of flights and it decreased, but thanks to all of you the German market grew by 10 percent in April."
For his part, Mr. Roland Junker, manager of Thomas Cook product, described Travel Games as successful, as the 250 travel agents and specialized press knew and fell in love with this part of Cuba, so that once in their respective offices, promote and sell the Holguin, Santiago de Cuba, Baracoa, Camagüey and Ciego de Avila destinations.
"The program was focused on improving, mainly, the sales of the circuits modality, because the German likes to combine in a week the route that allows them to know different places and also the hotels, but in less proportion", he noted.
He explained that "everyone did not visit the same places because it was not possible. We programmed 10 groups during the five days dedicated to travel through the different chosen areas, each of the participants lived all the natural beauty of such amazing places as those found in Baracoa, the city of Santiago de Cuba, Cayo Coco, Gibara or the beaches and hotel facilities of Holguin, to then carry out an exchange of information and views among them. "
Mr. Roland Junker was recognized by the Cuban Minister of Tourism for "his constant work, advice and dedication", with the announcement of the upcoming retirement of Thomas Cook's Senior Product Manager.
Miguel Fluxa Rosello, president of Iberostar Hotels & Resorts highlighted the years of work with Thomas Cook and added that this tour operator could be one of the best companies to promote Cuba.
