The Pedro Sotto Alba nickel plant located in the municipality of Moa, Holguin, currently benefits from technological innovations as internal responses to the production process that also contribute to reduce imports and protect the environment.

About these contributions, Rodney Correa Suarez, specialist in industrial maintenance is distinguished by his contributions to the solution of technical problems of the industry with the manufacture of a diaphragm incorporated to the pumps of positive displacement in the area of leaching and washing of the plant to move suspensions and aggressive chemical liquids.

This element, usually imported from other countries, allows the passage of substances through the valve to the discharge pipe of the nickel industry, said Correa to the Cuban News Agency.

In this regard, he added, the component purchased in the international market has a short useful life, which is why they decided to manufacture it here as a variant to help extend its duration period and at a lower cost.

On the other hand, Teodoro Diaz Molina, a topographer from the mine belonging to Moa's nickel plant, had the initiative to recycle the plywood boxes and the disposable parts to make household objects such as beds, furniture, cradles and cabinets, without incurring in expenses or any damage to the atmosphere.

He also stressed that all the implements created in this case are donated to Day Care centers in the territory.

The Pedro Sotto Alba Nickel Industry was founded in July 1961 and its main corporate purpose is the production of mixed nickel and cobalt sulfide.
