Despite the epidemiological situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in Holguín, child care centers remain open as the main service to support working mothers, with the strict compliance with the hygienic and sanitary measures adopted in Cuba in the face of the pandemic.

Yaima Cruz de la Cruz, head of Early Childhood in the Provincial Education Department, told the Cuban News Agency that to date only seven of these institutions have been closed, four in the municipality of Moa, two in Mayarí and one in Rafael Freyre, due to the incidence of community events.

The centers that remain open welcome around three thousand children a day of the almost 10 thousand that make up the provincial enrollment, with whom educational activities corresponding to the year of life of each infant are carried out.

For children who remain at home, parents were directed to watch television programs dedicated to early childhood and preschool education broadcast by the Educational Channel on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays respectively.

In child care centers, she added, the cleaning and disinfection efforts by their workers are strengthened, as well as the care of the hygiene of infants at all times to avoid the contagion and spread of COVID-19.

The province of Holguín has 62 childcare centers, in which maintenance and repair actions are prioritized in order to guarantee the necessary conditions for the care of children during the early childhood stage in these facilities.
