University of Medical Sciences in Holguín continues school year with new modalities

With strict compliance with the biosafety measures established to prevent COVID-19, the Mariana Grajales University of Medical Sciences in the province of Holguín, one of the highest enrollment rate in Cuba, continues the preparation of its students through new modalities.
Dr. Mirna González, director of professional training at the institution, told the Cuban News Agency that in the midst of the complex epidemiological situation, students take advantage of the benefits of new technologies to synthesize the knowledge learned in class.
She said that this purpose is achieved from the use of the institutional websites of the house of higher studies and the continuous improvement of the plans, adapting them to the distance modality, without losing the quality and rigor of the teaching-educational process.
During the current school year, adjustments were made to synthesize as far as possible the theoretical contents of the subjects, so that in the face of the health contingency, it is possible to continue without the need for face-to-face activities with part of the objectives of the school period, González added.
González indicated that students are also active in comprehensive community work, based on active health research, one of the most effective methods of containing the new coronavirus, based on early detection and timely isolation of people with respiratory symptoms.
As part of the priorities for learning, the improvement of the clinical and epidemiological method, the permanent improvement of the teaching staff, the certification of teaching scenarios and the increase in training on biosafety measures in the face of the new coronavirus are also established, she explained.
The University of Medical Sciences of Holguín has an enrollment of more than nine thousand students in different specialties, technical careers, degrees, short-cycle programs and vertical internships, among other modalities and also dedicates its work to promoting scientific projects, use of natural and traditional medicine and environmental protection.
