Agriculture sector in Holguín to recover aquaculture programs

Photo: Taken from Granma.The agriculture sector in the province of Holguín focus its efforts in the recovery of aquaculture in support of the food self-sufficiency program through collaboration with the fishing company of the eastern territory.
The actions towards the revitalization of this activity are carried out mainly in the livestock areas where there are reservoirs for the breeding of different fish species adaptable to fresh water and of rapid development.
Duly Osorio Ocampo, head of the livestock department in the provincial delegation of agriculture, said to the ACN that there are currently about 266 hectares in different Holguín municipalities linked to the breeding program.
Osorio added that the program will be progressively extended to the dams and micro-dams equipped for the recovery of aquaculture, mainly in the areas where the activity have decreased.
Among the waterfish species included in this variant of aquaculture in Holguín, it stands out the tilapia and the tench, with notable acceptance among consumers and easy catching technique, carried out under the supervision of the fishing company, said Osorio Ocampo.
