The 37th edition of the City Hall was inaugurated on January 16 in the city of Holguín, as part of the celebrations of the Culture Week taking place in this eastern province.
In her opening speech, Yuricel Moreno, Director of the Provincial Center of Plastic Arts and President of the Council of Plastic Arts in the province said that “the artist creates in any circumstance and looks for spaces to present himself. In that sense, this edition of the event includes 48 works by 41 participants, not inconsiderable figures ".
“This exhibition shows, above all, the key of painting and mixed techniques in two-dimensional supports. Themes that range from the experiential, the everyday, the social to the ghostly and fictional, passing through purely aesthetic games. Color predominates. Defined discourses coexist with others that still probe for references that are too close, I would say, in search of personality,” Moreno said.
The jury is made up of Carlos Walker Delis, the Ms.C. Dayamí Rodríguez Gómez and Dr.C. Diana María Cruz Hernández.
For the first time, the Hall will award a collateral prize that aims to promote artistic work with manufactured paper. The proposal was made by Fernando Bacallao and the Association of Paper Artists (APA), of Florida. For this section, the jury is made up of Fernando Bacallao, Yanelis Esquijarosa Abradelo and Manuel Arias Silveira.
The winner of the collateral prize will be announced on the 20th at 5:00 p.m. in the small hall of the Art Center, just before the opening of the Roy González exhibition.
