Angola is Friday preparing conditions for a law on human tissue, cell and organ transplants, a document that should be submitted to parliament after being drafted by health technicians.

The draft text passed Thursday before the Council of Ministers, led by President Joao Lourenzo.

The proposal will allow hospitals to carry out these surgical procedures at a time when patients with kidney failure are demanding access to them.

Transplants approved include renal, bone marrow, and the corneal ones. The proposal includes authorizations for private clinics to carry out transplants, subject to permission from the Ministry of Health.

Deputy Health Minister Leonardo Inocencio said private units will have to test their human, technological and infrastructure conditions to perform surgery.

Angola, he said, is living a historic day with the appreciation of the legislation, which will set specific rules such as that the donor will do it voluntarily and the organs must be properly organized. / PL
