The Prize for poetry and décima “Fidel entre nosotros”, convened by the Cuban Workers Confederation (CTC) in the province of Holguín and co-sponsored by the Provincial Council of Casas de Cultura, was awarded to the poet Osmari Reyes García and décima singer Gerardo Muñoz Aguirre, from the municipalities of Mayarí and Sagua de Tánamo, respectively.
On the eve of the 5th anniversary of the physical disappearance of the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz, the renowned writer Ronel González, a member of the jury, said to the ¡ahora! local newspaper that some 25 representative works of the entire northeastern geography were valued.
According to the criteria of the jury, the poetry "Apparent Silence, Echo", by Reyes García stood out for the suggestive poetic proposal from solidity and knowledge in which the figure of the Commander in Chief is highlighted with a language close to the latest promotions of Cuban authors.
While "Décima Message to Comandante Fidel", by Muñoz Aguirre, historian of the town of Sagua de Tánamo, got the most applause for the expressive force and coherence of the text.
The contest "Fidel among us" aims to encourage among Amateur Artists the validity of Fidel's thought in Cuba today and is part of the activities developed each year by the system of Cultural institutions to remember its history and legacy.
The National Council of Casas de Cultura, with more than 300 institutions distributed throughout the Caribbean Island, has its roots in the National Movement of Amateur Artists with an essential work of its art instructors and cultural promoters in the rescue and development of Cuban cultural identity.
