Holguin: Extensive Crops Planting Program in Cold Season

The agricultural sector of the province of Holguin will undertake from next September the largest planting program for food items of all time, as part of the work included in the cold campaign that extends from September to February in Cuba.
The total area to be planted will amount to 32, 342 hectares of crops, including food and grains , which identify the agricultural potential of the eastern territory.
Carlos Alberto Ricardo Ledea, head of the agricultural department in the provincial delegation of Agriculture, said that the plan for the coming period will exceed four thousand hectares compared to the previous stage in response to the country's demands to increase crop volumes through a better use of land and resources in each producing entity.
In the initial stage of the campaign, efforts will be directed mainly to the preparation of land. In this sense, companies and productive areas have more than 300 tractors and other indispensable means for the preparation of the areas to be planted.

According tothe specialist, in addition to the production of food and vegetables, the agricutural sector will give priority to the production of beans, which can contribute to reduce the import levels in the international market.
