University of Holguín Boosts Environmental Protection

The protection of the environment is included today among the priorities of the University of Holguín, as part of the implementation in this center of high studies of the Tarea Vida plan, conceived by the Cuban State to face the climate change in the island.
The University, like the other centers of its kind in Cuba, has the mission of managing knowledge and innovation to favor the natural environment from the completion of its multiple processes, contributing to sustainable social economic development and training of the qualified work force in the subject.
Miguel Antonio Cisneros, head of the Environmental Management group at the University of Holguín, told the ACN that the actions carried out in this regard come from the implementation of the 2017-2021 Environmental Strategy and aim to achieve the objectives of sustainable development, in accordance with the diagnosis prepared by the Cuban Ministry of Higher Education.
Some of the most significant tasks performed there, said the specialist, are those related to the availability and efficient use of water in order to face the drought.
Cisneros pointed out that around the indicator, the Holguín University carries out international collaboration projects, hazard, vulnerability and risk studies, and training actions, not only in the classrooms, but also in the community.
According to Cisneros, they also carried out an evaluation of his hydraulic infrastructure, because its state determines the conservation of that liquid so vital for life.
The results of the investigation contributed to the comprehensive maintenance of a considerable number of sanitary networks, the repair of the cistern of the Celia Sánchez Manduley headquarters, another of the teaching units of the University of Holguín, and the renovation of some areas of the automotive workshop, explained. / ACN
