The agricultural sector in Holguín will extend in the current campaign the cultivation of tobacco in more than one thousand hectares within the plan, the largest area in recent times as part of the measures to expand the harvest of that line.
Although without the tradition of other regions of the country in the cultivation of this agricultural line, such as Pinar del Río and Sancti Spíritus mainly, several areas of lands in Holguín are suitable to contribute to tobacco production, one of the sectors of the national economy called to raise the stock levels in each harvest season.
The sowing of more than one thousand hectares planned in the 2018-19 season in the eastern territory is mainly concentrated in the municipalities of Calixto García, Holguín, Mayarí and Sagua de Tánamo, told to the ACN, Yumisele Piñarí Matos, an official from the provincial company of Tobacco.
The tobacco farming program for the current season began on October 10 and so far over 300 hectares have been planted here, while the rest of the plan must be completed in December, Piñarí said.
In this regard, she said, the company has the tobacco plants demanded and the resources essential for the crop, the harvests and the protection of the leaf, whose main destiny is the Cigar factory of Holguín that benefits with 90 percent of the tobacco production of the eastern territory. / ACN
