Copextel Corporation, one of Cuba's most iconic technology companies, celebrates its 34th anniversary with significant achievements in the country's energy transition and the provision of essential services to the population. Its subsidiary in Holguín is emerging as a key player in the implementation of solar projects that already benefit sectors such as healthcare and education.

A social mission

In addition to being a technology services company, Copextel has consolidated its mission by integrating development with social responsibility. In Holguín, this commitment is materialized in its leading participation in the government program for changing the national energy matrix.

Juan Carlos Cobas, General Manager of Copextel in the Province, highlighted the social impact of these projects. The company has been involved in installing solar panels in communities without electricity, providing a free alternative and clean energy service.

The group designs and installs photovoltaic systems so that production and service institutions can maintain their operations despite frequent power outages, ensuring basic services for the population.

A program that rewards work merit

Copextel Holguín will be the leading entity in providing solar energy to outstanding healthcare and education workers who will benefit from the sale of solar panels and batteries, which they can repay with a bank loan with extended terms.

This program will not only improve the living conditions of these professionals but will also positively impact their work performance by ensuring a stable electricity supply in their homes.

E-commerce

Pavel Gayardo Herrera, Commercial Manager, referred to the corporation commitment to e-commerce, which allows the purchases made from abroad to family and friends here in Cuba, especially of high-end household appliances at affordable prices.

This is of great importance today, added Gayardo Herrera, because chain stores nationwide have been affected, and this largely fills the gap in this market that has stopped supplying the population.

He also highlighted the incorporation of this service to healthcare workers on international missions, who can make their purchases abroad using this payment platfform.

Boosting tourism development

Daniel Santiago Solís Hernández, Manager for the Guardalavaca Tourism Center, described the multiple technological solutions they offer to the sector, which includes different technological lines there, such as the audiovisual and entertainment system, the security system, and the communications, telephony, data networks, and Wi-Fi networks, among others.

"We have participated in various events organized by Gaviota. One example of this was the Music Fest, which took place recently," he added.

Large-scale projects

Copextel is also involved in major energy infrastructure projects. In 2025, the company contributed to the construction of three major photovoltaic parks in the province: Corúa 5, in the municipality of Mayarí; Providencia, in the provincial capital; and La Caridad-Potrerillo, in Rafael Freyre.

Each of these parks has a capacity of 21.8 megawatts, representing a significant contribution of clean energy into the National Electricity System and a step toward reducing dependence on fossil fuels. They are also working on the construction of a 50-kilowatt park at the University of Moa.

Improvement and technical capacity

Copextel's history in Holguín is one of constant improvement. "At first, Copextel was part of Santiago de Cuba´s branch, with just 50 employees." Over time, the subsidiary became independent and began to expand. We added staff and activities until we were created as a division," said Norma Ochoa Parra, Group Head of Human Capital.

With a workforce of around 200 employees, the company is characterized by its high level of qualifications. "Over the years, more than 80 percent of the workforce has been university graduates, mid-level technicians, or skilled workers," she emphasized. "That's why we've gained prestige for our technical solutions."

At 34 years of its founding, Copextel demonstrates that technological innovation and social commitment can go hand in hand. Its workers are not just installing solar panels; they are lighting a light of progress, ensuring that essential services reach the population and laying the foundations for a cleaner and more sustainable energy future for all. The credit program for outstanding health and education workers represents a further step in this direction, recognizing work merit while building a more energy-resilient country.
