Cuban Deputy PM checks strategic objectives in Holguín

Ines Maria Chapman Waugh, deputy prime minister of Cuba, on Thursday, checked the results achieved in the implementation of the Government Program to Correct Distortions and Re-boost the Economy in the municipality of Holguín. She also analyzed the complex situation of territorial planning in the urban environment of this district.

In meeting attended by Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba in Holguín; Manuel Francisco Hernández Aguilera, Governor and the members of the Government Administration Council in the head municipality.

Among the topics discussed were high prices, the demand for housing, deteriorating roads, difficulties with the water supply and solid waste collection, issues hurt the population of Holguín.

The meeting reaffirmed that the main problems affecting the population must include responses and proposed solutions in the territorial Government Program. It was emphasized again that it is necessary to follow up on needs and achieve impactful results in response to residents' demands.

Chapman Waugh, also a deputy for the Holguín municipality of Banes, asserted that the head municipality has the potential to increase physical productions, which is not being met. In the current context, she stated that it is vital to increase the supply of goods and services to the population at lower prices.

The working session also addressed the need to pay greater attention to urban planning, as 29 illegal neighborhoods with more than 4,000 homes are reported in the municipality. Given this situation, it is essential to be able to organize and orient the location of housing construction based on the conceived urban layout.
