The Guidance Centers for Women and the Family in Holguin province encourage preventive work and the formation of values, as part of the programs of the Cuban Revolution in favor of females.
These institutions, led by the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), were founded in 1990 and are part of the legacy of the Cuban heroine Vilma Espin, to strengthen the role of the family in society and achieve cultural improvement of affiliates to this organization.
Oleida Teruel, an official of the FMC said that these facilities are responsible for promoting harmony in homes through courses, workshops, educational talks and scientific events dedicated to gender equity and the emancipation of women.
Among these actions stand out the Workshop of Women Creators and the Project Transform to Educate, which have a positive impact in several communities, mainly in the head city of Holguin.
According to Iris Díaz, member of the provincial secretariat of the Federation, the Guidance Centers has contributed to reduce adolescent pregnancy in several communities of the province.
These institutions, she added, also have a special family procedure team to deal with cases that, due to their seriousness, require the intervention of the authorities.
In the northeastern territory there are 15 of these centers, in which a multidisciplinary group composed of sociologists, psychologists, lawyers and other specialists provide individual and group information for the confrontation of domestic and marital conflicts.
