An exchange on the experiences in the film industry of renowned Cuban actors and Puerto Rican Benicio del Toro on Wednesday distinguished the 14th International Film Festival of Gibara, which takes place in this city until the 7th of July.
The House of Culture, located in the historic center of this coastal city was the setting to bring together renowned actors such as Eslinda Núñez, Mirtha Ibarra, Jorge Perugorría, Thaimi Alvariño, Coralia Veloz and Néstor Jiménez.
The meeting took place in a friendly atmosphere and a broad sense of humor, presenting the actors beyond the multiple characters they have represented.
It was time to remember the filmmaker Humberto Solás, creator of the event in 2003 through one of his masterpieces, Lucía, a film that had Eslinda Núñez among its protagonists, who recalled the filming process of this classic of the Cuban film industry.

In the words of Eslinda, Lucia was a very generous film that greatly contributed to the professional development of actors and that the people of Gibara remember fondly. “They stop us in the streets to make us anecdotes of Solás and those days. I honestly do not think there is a better place than Gibara to celebrate 50 years of its premiere.”
Motivation that also shares Benicio del Toro, who has come for the second consecutive to Gibara with the special purpose of presenting the feature film “Fear and disgust in Las Vegas,” which starred with Johnny Deep, under the direction of Terry Gilliam.

The actor commented on the failure of the film in its beginnings, as well as the formula he found to gain weight, as it was demanded by his character Dr. Gonzo, which consisted of a diet based on eating 12 to 14 donuts daily, since then he assured that he gains weight easily.
Other topics of interest were related to the distribution for a greater scope of the productions of the Caribbean island, which according to the words of Perugorría is one of the most difficult problems facing Cuban cinema at this time.

The welcome to the actress Thaimi Alvariño, who recently arrived from Colombia after a stay of 10 years, marked the meeting, where she thanked the professional experience obtained in that Latin American nation and assured that with her return she will not be separated from this festival anymore.
Néstor Jiménez thanked the hospitality of the people of Gibara and described the event as the best in the world, since it provides, he said, the opportunity to share with friends and colleagues freely, from any square or corner of the city.
Opinion shared by Benicio, who highlighted the plurality and harmonious coexistence of the various artistic manifestations, as one of the main hallmarks of the Gibara Fil Festival.
Dedicated to children and adolescents, the 14th edition of the Gibara International Film Festival runs from the 1st to the 7th of July, which will close with the concert of the popular Argentine musician Fito Páez. / ACN
