Gibara Film Festival with Extensive Audiovisual Programming

The 14th edition of the International Film Festival of Gibara to be held from July 1 to 7 in that coastal town of Holguin will have more than 40 films in competition.
 
Dedicated to children and adolescents, the event will present a jury of luxury that brings together filmmakers, critics and musicians from Spain, Argentina, Mexico and Cuba.

The jury will be chaired by Félix Viscarret, a multi-awarded Spanish actor and filmmaker, writer and essayist Pablo Barrios, Mexican actor Damián Bichir, Argentinean composer and music producer Osvaldo Montes and Cuban scriptwriter and director Arturo Soto, report the official website of the event.

Feature and fiction films, documentaries and animated films will be screened during the festival, whose variety and quality is expected to attract an increased number of movie fans.

Keeping the spaces dedicated to audiovisual realization is the biggest challenge for this year’s event, and we will do so with the participation not only of the people from Gibara, but of all Cubans who wish to share the creative talent that will be exhibited in Gibara, said in recent statements to the local media Jorge Perugorría, president of the festival.

Among the films in competition stands out the movie "Sergio y Serguéi" by filmmaker Ernesto Daranas, a co-production of Spain-Cuba-United States premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017.

“Lobos” by Cuban filmmaker Camila Carballo, “Mauro and Olivia”, by Argentine Eduardo Elli and “Al que no le guste que no mire”, by the Spanish María José Martínez, which is a critique of the slavery of the woman according to the canons of beauty imposed by the current society, are some of the short films that will be exhibited during the week.

In the documentary section, "“Las muchas Natalia Bolívar: arte, utopía y religión” by Juana María Cordones and a collaboration of the United States-Cuba-Uruguay, among others, are competing.
