FICGibara concludes in northeastern Cuba

The 17th edition of the Gibara International Film Festival (FICGibara) concluded on Saturday with the delivery of the Lucía de Honor award to the renowned Cuban actor Jorge Perugorria.
In the awards ceremony held at the Cine Jibá in this coastal city, the jury in the fiction category decided to award the feature film "Petit Nature" directed by Samuel Theis, from France, for its forceful dramatic narration when approaching the gender awareness.
The award for fiction short film went to "Fin", by director Fernando Reinaldos, from the United States, which shows through audiovisuals a raw and sensitive exhibition about old age and death.
The statuette in the documentary feature film category went to the audiovisual "Virgilio from the blue cabinet", directed by Raydel Araoz, for reconstructing the work of the playwright, narrator and poet Virgilio Piñeira based on the representation of his autobiography and excellent aesthetic proposals.Also in this section, the Cuban documentary short film “Todos los días son ocho de marzo”, by Lizzete Vila, Sergio Cabrera and Ingrid León, received the laurelaward.
The closing ceremony was attended by Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary in the province; Manuel Hernández Aguilera, governor of Holguín, among other political and government authorities.
This year’s edition of FICGibara paid homage to the 20th anniversary of its founding by the prominent director Humberto Solás who turned the Villa Blanca into a cultural center where artistic manifestations, cinema and audiovisuals come together.
