The reservoirs in the province of Holguín are at 64.2 percent of their filling capacity, after the rains of recent days which have favored the increase in storage volumes.

Jorge Bosch, sub-delegate for Hydraulic Resources in the territory, told the ACN that, compared to May 1, the dams have more than 66 million cubic hectometres of water and those with the greatest increases are Gibara, Colorado, Tacajó, Moa and Mayarí, used to supply the population and agriculture.

According to Bosch, the province accumulates more than 200 millimeters of rainfall, which exceeds the historical average by 135 percent, while twelve municipalities have exceeded these averages, except Moa and Antilla, which remain below 60 percent.

Parallel to this recovery, investment and maintenance actions are being undertaken in the territory to unclog sewage systems, reduce flood zones, indicated Juan Mario Echavarría Hernández, branch delegate.

He added that water supply is prioritized to areas of difficult access and others with depletion of their own sources, where studies are carried out to incorporate new clients to the aqueduct and insert renewable energy sources.

Holguín has 21 dams distributed in several municipalities, with a capacity of more than 900 million cubic meters of storage, of which 13 are destined to supply the population and agriculture. (Source: ACN)
