The Cuban Post Office (ECC) in Holguín ventures into the distribution and last-mile delivery service of cross-border electronic commerce, as part of the process of expanding its online services.
The service allows the storage and distribution of shipments marketed by private operators abroad that have contracts with the International Messaging and Exchange Company of the Cuban Postal Business Group, told the local newspaper ¡ahora! Osmar Shong Reyes, Director of Operations of the Company in Holguín.
It includes the sale of medicines, food, cleaning products, household supplies and school supplies that are accessed through a family member or other person residing abroad who requests the benefit from the virtual platforms of private parcel operators.
Shong specified that the shipments, conceived in the form of combos, vary in correspondence with the demands of the clients, and are distributed and delivered in the postal network of the ECC with the same treatment given today to an express shipment.
A maximum period of seven days is available for the delivery of the package, once it is in the company and it will always be made at home, he explained.
The guarantee policy is managed by the virtual store of international operators, so dissatisfaction or claims about the products, or any type of disagreement with the final destination, must be processed by the customer with the operator of origin.
In the event that the delivery extends beyond the scheduled seven days, there are telephone numbers for the population to process the complaint, which in the case of Holguín are 24 462254, at the ECC headquarters in the province, the 24 424504 at the Central Post Office and 24 422951 at the company address center.
Shong Reyes pointed out that the service will have a second stage, where products from national economic actors, from the state and non-state sectors, will be included through the virtual store of Correos de Cuba, which will enter into force soon.
In addition, it is expected that this cross-border electronic commerce service will have a third moment for the export of national products through the postal operators of other countries, with the purpose of carrying out the distribution and delivery abroad of Cuban merchandise via the Internet.
Among other long-term projects, it is projected that the benefit, which is currently received from abroad, can be requested by any owner of a USD card resident in the country.
Another service readapted to electronic commerce is the payment of international money orders, active since 2011, for which there are contractual relations with Spain, Chile, Uruguay, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Peru and Panama, and includes all types of freely convertible currency, highlighted Osmar Shong Reyes.
