Holguin to Increase Health Control Measures at Int´l Airport

Given the increase in the number of travelers arriving in the Frank País international airport of Holguin, together with the exchanges of collaboration and cooperation held with several countries, make necessary to reinforce the International Health Control actions.
The situation generated by the increase in cases of vector-borne diseases in the Americas and the existence of acute respiratory diseases, yellow fever and malaria outbreaks, have led to the introduction and transmission of infectious diseases in the national territory, which implies the adoption of exhaustive measures to make effective the control to travelers.
According to the epidemiologist Eduardo Michel Serrano Riverón: "So far this year we have received more than seven thousand travelers, including Holguin citizens who were in visit to Guyana, Guinea Conakry, Angola, Venezuela, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Russia, among other countries. This means that we have to be careful, because for example there is measles and mumps in Europe and these diseases are transmitted by micro-drops of saliva carrying the virus and those persons who are not protected or are immunologically strong can incubate a disease, go unnoticed and import it into the country. "
Travelers arriving from countries at risk of yellow fever, malaria and other transmissible diseases are asked for evidence of vaccination upon arrival in the country. As the province does not escape the international scenario, we can do much to alleviate the situation. In this regard, Serrano expressed:
"There are a lot of things we can do to reduce and even stop the epidemiological situation and prevent it from becoming a major epidemiological and even economic problem, through conscious actions. In the first place, any person with clinical manifestations of an arbovirus disease has to go to the doctor. Once the patient is diagnosed by the Basic Health Team, the isolation and hospital study is carried out and in the case of positive results we implement all the measures needed to prevent the dissemination of the disease ".
The timely control and surveillance actions carry out in the territory, will contribute to reduce the entry into the country of communicable or emerging diseases. / Radio Angulo
