90 percent of the population of the province of Holguín, which exceeds one million inhabitants, already has the complete anti-COVID-19 vaccination scheme, after the application of the Cuban immunogen Abdala, with 100 percent effectiveness in the prevention of serious illness and death.
Since the beginning of the application of the doses in May 2020 to risk groups, nearly three million injections have been administered, mainly to health personnel, the elderly, transplant patients, pregnant women and postpartum women, among other population segments vulnerable to new coronavirus due to age or associated chronic diseases.
Rubén Sierra, a specialist from the Provincial Directorate of Public Health, told the ACN that the established exclusion criteria are maintained within the vaccination program, including cancer treatments or high doses of steroids.
At the same time, the administration of the booster vaccine is progressing in the province, with more than 200 authorized sites, where the organization and preparation of human capital are maintained, according to the protocols established by the Ministry of Public Health, he stressed.
Holguín also continues the immunization digitalization process, one of the programs that contribute to the control of travelers at the border and the reduction of waiting time for entry and exit from the national territory, specifically through the Frank País International Airport.
The province has increased in recent days the number of positive cases due to the pandemic, for which Abdala's application must be accompanied by greater discipline in the use of the face mask, hand washing and social distancing.
