Holguin Hosts Event for “The City We Want”

hato hg The 17th edition of the event “La Ciudad que queremos” (The city we want) opens its doors today in this city for all those interested in celebrating the 473 anniversary of the establishment of the Hato San Isidoro de Holguin.
 
Organized by the National Union of Historians of Cuba in the province and the Office of Monuments and Historical Sites, the event gathers each year historians, sociologists, urban planners and social communicators in search of exchange and socialization of projects that contribute to the dissemination of the material and cultural heritage of Holguin.

The event, founded in 2001, is opened to all residents in this city who want to participate, since it is essential to know the concerns of its people for the development of society.

The work sessions include two commissions to address Architecture and Urbanism, with topics related to the rehabilitation of the historic center of the city, cultural heritage, materials and techniques for contemporary restoration.

Also, the history of Spanish colonization in Cuba and Holguin, Holguin personalities, transculturation process and the challenges of teaching history in the formation of values in the new generations.

The city of Holguin, in eastern Cuba, was founded on April 4, 1545 by the Spanish captain Garcia Holguin, and among its distinctive features is the symmetry of its streets that extend from the base of the Loma de la Cruz to the vicinity of the railway station.
