Due to the increase in confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province of Holguín, restrictive measures and sanitary protocols are strengthened in order to contain the disease in the midst of a complex epidemiological situation spread throughout Cuba due to the presence of SarsCov-2 variants.

Dr. Alcides Lazo, an official in the provincial Health Directorate, told the ACN that they are currently working with expert teams to provide follow-up to the communities with the highest transmission, mainly in Moa and the provincial capital, which register the highest figures of suspect and positive patients.

He also stressed the improvement of isolation protocols, the epidemiological survey and active health research, aimed at reducing transmission in the community and contributing to the protection of vulnerable sectors of the population, including children, postpartum women and pregnant women.

Lazo reiterated the importance of complying with the biosafety measures established in the family and work environment, including social distancing, the use of the nasobuco (face mask) and the disinfection of hands and surfaces with chlorine or alcoholic solutions.

In the territory, admission capacities for confirmed and suspects have also been increased with a total of 64 centers, including the Fermín Valdés Domínguez Military Hospital and the Lucía Íñiguez Landín clinical-surgical hospital, according to information provided by the Provincial Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology.

Parallel to this process, the vaccination with Abdala continues to the population group aged 60 years and over, in about 200 vaccination points and clinical sites set up in the main municipality, whose the first dose of the immunogen has already been administered to more than 12 thousand inhabitants since the start of health intervention on Monday.

The province has eight open events of local community transmission and some 700 foci under follow-up due to the high transmission of the virus. Hence the need to increase the risk perception in containing the pandemic in the territory, with an incidence rate of 257 sick per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 15 days.
