Given the progressive increase in confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province of Holguín, the health system improves the application of health protocols, an essential measure to contain the pandemic, with more than 900 cases diagnosed in this territory in the new normal.

This strategy is based on raising the quality of the epidemiological survey and the active research, reducing the number of hours between the detection of a suspect and his admission to the isolation center, as well as the creation of work teams for the supervision of these parameters.

Dr. Alcides Lazo, official of the Provincial Health Directorate, pointed out to the Cuban News Agency that the conditions are also created to increase isolation capacities and reduce the waiting time for PCR results, based on optimization of the processes of assembly and transfer of samples to the molecular biology laboratory of the main city.

Among the indicators that define this situation in the territory, is that of cases without a determined source of infection, mainly in the municipalities of Moa, Sagua de Tánamo and the head city, with the highest number of confirmed cases in the last 15 days and the very low percent of relationship between a positive and the number of contacts.

Lazo said that there are about 48 positives, in which it has not been possible to determine the source of contagion of the pandemic, which indicates the existence of circulation and dispersal of the virus and requires extreme biosecurity measures necessary for the control of the disease, with more than 49 thousand cases diagnosed in Cuba.

Also, measures have been adopted to reduce mobility and mass of people as much as possible, including the adaptation of working hours in commercial establishments, the temporary closure of nightclubs, the incentive to access public services online and the suspension of local, inter-municipal and inter-provincial passenger transport.

Holguín has 81 active sources of COVID-19, distributed in 11 of its 14 municipalities, 40 suspected cases admitted to hospitals and more than a thousand contacts isolated in centers prepared for this purpose, Lazo added.
