New equipment donated by friends of Cuba in Chile benefits the ozone therapy service at the Vladimir Ilich Lenin University Teaching Hospital, which treats cancer patients from eastern Cuba.
The new equipment, which is in the comissioning phase, will help to improve the application of rectal and infiltrated ozone safer and more efficient.
This technique benefits approximately 60 patients a day, not only those with tumors in various locations, but also orthopedic patients who have difficulty walking, said Victoria Martínez Escalona, the nurse in charge of operating the technology.
She noted that cancer therapies are in high demand, which leads to equipment wear and tear and drives up the cost of spare parts due to the coercive measures of the U.S. economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba.
Ozone therapy treatment helps to improve oxygenation and circulation, modulates the immune system, and offers anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects, thus facilitating wound healing and combating infections.
