The lyric theater Rodrigo Prats of Holguín will premiere this November 13th the operetta La Viuda Alegre, in the main hall of the Eddy Suñol Theater, after 30 years out of the stage.
Dedicated to the 57th anniversary of the Lyric Theater on November 16 and the 80 anniversary of the “Suñol”, the staging is characterized by the youth of the actors who debut in the main roles, as result of the training of these professionals in the middle and higher levels, which guarantees the continuity of the prestigious institution.
The lively tangled storyline of Hanna Glawari's history will be accompanied by live music of the Holguín Chamber Orchestra with guest instrumentalists under the direction of maestro Oreste Saavedra, told to the local press María Dolores Rodríguez, director of the lyric theater.
The costumes design was in charge of Alejandro de la Torre, who was inspired by the fashion of the early twentieth century, period in which the piece is developed, and who also assumed, for the first time, the stage design for the three acts.
The staging will have original choreographies by Alejandro Millán, at the head of the company's group.
The production cost for the work exceeds 50 thousand CUC, which was paid by the Provincial Council of the Performing Arts, the Eddy Suñol Cultural Complex and the Holguín subsidiary of the Cuban Fund for Cultural Property.
La Viuda Alegre, is one of the most represented operettas in the world since its premiere in 1905, with music by the Austro-Hungarian composer Franz Lehár and German libretto by Leo Stein and Victor León, which tells the story of a rich widow and the attempt by her countrymen to keep her money in the principality by finding her a good husband.
