Over 15 Countries to Attend Ibero-American Culture Festival in Holguin

More than 150 artists and intellectuals from 16 countries will meet in Holguin during the 25th Ibero-American Culture Festival to be held from October 24 to 30, organizers announced today.
 
The event brings together the most diverse artistic expressions: plastic arts, dance, cinema and music, among others.
Participants this year will arrive from Peru, Colombia, Spain, Costa Rica, Mexico, Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago, Ecuador, India, Italy, the United States, Panama, Chile, Haiti, El Salvador and Guatemala.

The director of Casa de Iberoamerica and president of the Organizing Committee of the Fiesta, Eduardo Avila, announced in a press conference that this 25th edition aims to highlight the importance of the Caribbean in Latin America.

Cuba is an active member of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), an organization aimed at identifying and promoting consultation, cooperation and concerted action among all countries in the region.

More than 200 artistic and cultural events will take place during the fiesta to be opened on October 24 with a cultural gala at the Eddy Suñol Theater, performed by the renowned Cuban pianist and composer Frank Fernandez and the Codanza Company.

The agenda also includes a tribute to the Spanish poet Benito Perez Galdos in the centenary of his death; to Cuban Major General Calixto Garcia on the 180th anniversary of his birth and Commander Camilo Cienfuegos, regarding the 60 years of his physical disappearance.

The Ibero-American Culture Festival was first held in Cuba in 1992 based on the growing relations of this Caribbean country with the Latin American countries.

The program of this meeting includes the 14th Ibero-American Congress of Thought, with the participation of speakers from the United States, El Salvador, Italy, Mexico and Costa Rica.

The Ibero-American Colloquium of Letters, personal and collective exhibitions of plastic arts, an Ibero-American Audiovisual Exhibition, community and socio-cultural animation projects and the Fiesta Campesina are also among the activities for the festival.

Likewise, concerts, workshops and the Iberoarte International Handicraft Fair, which will be attended by more than 60 artisans from nine countries with works from the different craft events to exhibit and market. / With information from Prensa Latina
