The 20th edition of the International Low-Budget Film Festival will be held from July 14 to 18, 2026, in the coastal city of Gibara, Holguín province. According to its organizing committee, the festival will transform the event into a stage for resilience through the art of cinema.

The 20th edition was rescheduled to the summer to encourage greater participation from university students and young people. It remains closely connected to the local community and continues to have a multicultural carácter, said Sergio Benvenuto Solás, president of the organizing committee.

Although attendance will be lower and international participation smaller, the festival has been adapted to current conditions after assessing the risks. Outdoor screenings will be expanded with three screens placed in different parts of the city, supported by battery systems when electricity is limited.

The festival will keep its usual film standards, even without the large concerts seen in previous editions. It will also include theater, music, dance, and forums, along with its regular categories: feature films, short fiction, documentaries, animation, and experimental cinema.

Founded in 2003 by Cuban filmmaker Humberto Solás, the festival was created to promote creativity and low-budget filmmaking. Since then, it has become one of the most valued film events in Latin America. (Source: ACN)
