The exhibition "Hasta siempre, Comandante" by Mexican photographers Eduardo Aguilera and Nelia Torres, which reveals the image of Ernesto "Che" Guevara in monuments, posters, manifestations of popular culture and social struggles of the Aztec nation, was opened at the Provincial Museum of History La Periquera, in the city of Holguin.
Opened on September 25, the exhibition comprises 24 pictures made in digital photography technique, which were accumulated in a vast archive by both artists in the protests against neoliberalism in Mexico, in which they have participated as photographers and protesters.
"Che in Mexico is a flag in social struggles, where still remains the cry of" Long live Che Guevara! "And" Long live Fidel Castro! " We decided that Cuba is the best place to display these images, as this is his second homeland. We opted for Holguin, because it is the hometown of Calixto Garcia, one of the paladin to achieve the independence of the island, ” said Aguilera.
“Through these photographs, we intend to show Cuban youth that outside of Cuba it is not Disneyland, as many try to make them believe," said Nelia Torres, who praised the social project of the Cuban Revolution.
They both have presented photographic exhibits in Cuba. In 2019, they proposed to open 12 exhibitions in different provinces and with different themes such as the daily life of the Mexican and Cuban peoples, their colonial architecture and the popular cult of the Virgin of Guadalupe and the Virgin of Charity.
"Hasta siempre, Comandante," which will be on display until October 30, is part of their dozen exhibits.
