It was then the so-called Lead Age. Thirty- three years ago, Ediciones Holguin (EH) printed the four winning books of the first edition of the City Prize, then exclusive to literature, with lead linotypes and ancient machines.
The smell of lead continued to permeate the printing until the new millennium, when Commander in Chief ordered to stop the ancient printing technique that was replaced by computers and printing machines. The system of territorial editions and several publishing houses were created throughout Cuba. By then Ediciones Holguin already had 14 years of history.
Now, it reaches its 33 anniversary on September 18, with more than 650 books published in all genres by local authors, renowned Cuban writers and voices of universal literature included in the national publishers.

The program of activities, to be developed from September 16 to 19, includes the presentation of books such as Memoria de los ’80, in the genre of testimony, on September 18th at the headquarters of the UNEAC.
Cultural spaces will be dedicated to the presence of poetry in the editorial pages from different perspectives: the decima, the new experimental poetry and the presence of young poets in the letters of the institution.
The publishing house, which marks its 33 anniversary with a renewed collection design and the creation of the book as an object of art, where visuality and word are harmoniously linked, will close the celebrations on September 19, with the poetic recital Bajo un cielo tan amplio, by local writers Lourdes Gonzalez, Delfin Prats and JL will Serrano.
