Gibara Film Festival Grants "Lucía de Honor" Award

The outstanding Cuban actress Daisy Granados and the film director Fernando Pérez received the Lucía de Honor Prize in ceremony held during the opening of the 15th International Film Festival (FIC) of Gibara, taking place in this coastal city until July 13th.

Granados, known worldwide as "the face of Cuban cinema," expressed her gratitude for having deserved this award inspired by the iconic film Lucía, by the late moviemaker Humberto Solás, an example of strength, freedom and nobility.
For his part, Fernando Pérez thanked all the people who contributed to the consolidation of his career, both photographers, producers, scriptwriters and editors, and dedicated the award to the FIC, to Solás, to the 500 Anniversary of Havana and especially to his daughter Susana.
The delivery of Lucía de Honor award will also pay homage, on the closing day, to the work of Puerto Rican actor and producer Benicio del Toro, who has deserved important prizes such as the award for best actor in Cannes and Goya.
After its debut in 1964, Daisy Granados undertook an extensive artistic career characterized by the performance of leading and dramatic characters; among the most remembered by the public is that of Teresa in, “Retrato de Teresa” (Portrait of Teresa), which deserved several awards.
Suite Habana, La vida es silbar, Madagascar and the most recent film, Insumisas, are part of the filmography of Fernando Pérez, who was premiered as director in 1975 and is distinguished by reflecting the daily stories of people from a sensitive and humanized point of view.
The 15th edition of the International Film Festival of Gibara, also has the presence of Laura de la Uz, Jaqueline Arenal and Coralita Veloz, among other Cuban artists of recognized national and international prestige.
