Arts Converge at Gibara Film Festival

The Jibá Cinema, main venue of the Gibara International Film Festival (FICG), will host some 95 audiovisual proposals that will be exhibited to the public from July 7 to 13, during the 15th edition of the event to take place in this coastal town of Holguín province.

About 59 films and fifteen scripts in the categories of Fiction Feature Film (9) and Short Fiction Film (15), Feature Film (8) and Short Film (8) and documentary, Animated Short Film (10), Films in Progress (9) and Unpublished script (15) will compete for the Lucía award.
The program of activities also includes parallel exhibitions, presentations and tributes, including the homage to the films "Fresa y Chocolate " by the late filkmmaker Tomás Gutiérrez Alea and Juan Carlos Tabío, 1994, as well as "Tango feroz", by Marcelo Piñeyro, 1993.
Jorge Perugorría, president of the FICG, recognized as one of the achievements of this edition the presence of 26 nations in the official and collateral film programming, among which stand out Cuba, Spain, Argentina, Germany, Colombia, China, Kenya, Holland , Iran and Russia.
It also highlights the Renaissance spirit provided by the filmmaker Humberto Solás to the Festival since its foundation, because in addition to the audiovisual proposals the event will include other artistic expressions such as music, theater and visual arts.
The streets and art galleries of Gibara will host 15 exhibitions of plastic arts, including photography, painting, interventions, video art and popular music.
Theater will also be represented by the performance of the play "Female, by the Holguín group Trébol Teatro, as well as "10 Millones" by Argos Teatro and the children's play " La niña que riega la albahaca ", " El príncipe preguntón " and "Una niña con alas" by Teatro de las Estaciones.
