Holguín-born poet, journalist, researcher, and art critic Erian Peña Pupo won the Main Prize of the National Poetry Contest Entre Dos Aguas with his book, Fresco de Pompeya, as announced by the Holguín branch of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).

The contest was organized by the Ecuadorian publisher Entre Dos Aguas and Ediciones Matanzas from Cuba, and the unanimous decision was announced by an international jury chaired by Cuban poet Víctor Rodríguez Núñez, with members including poets Daniel Calabrese, an Argentine resident in Chile, and Luis Franco, from Ecuador.

Regarding his work, Erian Peña commented that Fresco de Pompeya was created at the beginning of this year," after a period in which he had stepped away from poetry. The poems in the book are inspired by visits, visions, and interpretations of various images that caught the author’s attention.

These images form a lyrical and referential structure seeking beauty, establishing a dialogue between his personal experiences and works of art such as paintings and photographs.

The title refers to Greco-Roman culture and the referential nature of the text, with recurring themes like ruins and time. The book includes tributes and references to literary, artistic, and cultural figures such as Nijinski, Borges, Baquero, Dickinson, among others, as well as specific places, all connected to the author’s.
