The Best Edition Award granted each year by the Provincial Center for Books and Literature was delivered on Saturday to Ediciones La Luz for the book “Monstruos pequeño inventario” (Monstruos small inventory) by Maikel José Rodríguez Calviño.
The stylistic coherence, the interior and cover design, the selected illustrations and the correspondence between the visual design achieved and the content as the final art of the editorial process were some of the elements considered by the jury, made up of renowned writers and editors Ada Bahr, Rogelio Riveron and Enrique Pérez Díaz.
Rogelio Riveron, current director of Letras Cubanas, announced that due to the quality of the proposals, the evaluators decided to award three mentions in addition to the award.
Recognition obtained by Ediciones Holguín for the boks “Zona Cero”, by Antón Arrufat and “Ella escribía poscrítica”, by Margarita Mateo; while Ediciones La Luz highlighted “Las piedra clamarán”, contemporary poetry on an LGBT+ theme, by Jesús Barquet and Virgilio López Lemus.
Adalberto Santos, editor of “Monstruos pequeño inventario”, thanked Rodríguez Calviño for having entrusted his Monsters collection to Ediciones La Luz and pointed out that this book was the prelude to many mythological creatures that will appear in the future.
The Best Edition Award included, in addition to the corresponding supporting diploma, a sculpture in jar and silver of the Cervantes character Don Quixote, which was made by the renowned artist José Salomón, who died last July due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
