Holguín mourns the death of “Lola”

Many claimed that she sang like angels. And if it is believed in a life beyond the earthly one, María Dolores Rodríguez must be one of them, honoring the simile that she earned during her lifetime for her unmistakable soprano voice.
The lyrical singer, teacher and director of the Rodrigo Prats Lyric Theater in Holguín died this August 21 victim of COVID-19.
Her last work with the renowned Holguín Company was the operetta “La Viuda Alegre”. With this piece she debuted with only 17 yearsold in the role of the Valencienne, after being discovered by the baritone and teacher Raúl Camayd, at the Higher Pedagogical Institute, from where she graduated in the specialty of English.
She gave various interviews to the local newspaper ¡ahora! in her roles as first figure and director of the Lyric theater. She was also teacher of various generations of singing at the branch of the Higher Institute of Art in Holguín, creator and leader of the children's lyrical project Voces de Ángeles and promoter of the Contest for Young Lyrical Singers.
